| About Deering High School
| |
| |
Located in Portland Maine, Deering High School is about one mile from tidal
waters of the Atlantic Ocean. The school is located on Stevens Ave and is
in the center of the Deering section of Portland. The high school is about 2
miles from City Hall.
The Deering community is known for its long
traditions and strong community support for education and family issues.
Many parents are very active in education and other community activities.
Deering has a strong reputation for its academic, extra-curricular, and
socially active groups.
It has the flavor of a small town where people know each other, yet maintain
the privacy that we all seek. You can be born, attend child care, have a family
doctor and dentist, go through grade school, middle and high school, college,
retire, and yes, be buried all on Stevens Ave. And only in Portland
Maine could you find such a place.
There is a wide variety of businesses such as
Maine Medical Center,
Mercy Hospital,
National Semiconductor,
UNUM Insurance Corporation, Hannaford Brothers,
Bath Iron Works,
University of Maine (USM) and
SAPPI Paper
in the Greater Portland area.
This is an active village supporting young adults on a mission.

| Purpose of this Web Site
| |
This Web site is used as a communication vehicle for people interested in the
Deering High School Wrestling program. These people may be parents, alumni of
the wrestling program, DHS wrestlers, and community folks that wonder just
what this sport is about and who is involved.
One key role is to provide information for the DHS alumni who have moved out
of the Portland area and want to stay connected with the happenings at DHS
wrestling. There is a long and deep tradition at DHS and these alumni may be
off to college, military service, raising family in other parts of the
country, or may be here in Portland and want another option for staying in
touch.
Parents who stay connected can use this site to find other parents and alumni
and use this information to pass onto their children who may be trying to
re-connect with a friend or wrestler.
People in the community who do not yet have a child involved in the sport
may use this site to evaluate just what this program is about and the success
not only in statistics, but the offering wrestling presents to young adults
in their journey to adulthood.
Thank you for visiting our site. Please send any new ideas and concerns to
the web author and we'll get back to you with a reply.
Please note that information on this site is semi-public knowledge
that will not be used to compromise
the saftey and well being of any of the students at DHS or
their family members.
All other information will remain confidential and will not appear on
this web site.

Coach Kirk has been with DHSW for over 20 years and has coached well over 600 wrestlers.
A strong tradition in the DHS wrestling program has always been a top priority for Coach
and continues to have returning wrestlers show up for practices and the annual alumni meet.
Coach Kirk demands a concerted effort, demands the wrestler make do and "suck it up" and
meet the challanges before them. And with a strong drive to set goals that are attainable,
many DHS wrestlers have been regional, state, tournament, and All-Americans. Few schools
have attained this success and none have a better Coach for life's lessions and
dealing with issues facing our young people than Coach Kirk. Even today Coach Kirk teaches
high standards for his team to be as strong in academics and athletics. Many wrestlers
have resolved issues in their lives solely because Coach Kirk was there as a coach, a teacher,
a father and adult role model. Thanks Coach for making our fine young men make it.
They are on a missions set forth by you.
