Coach Kirk has coached wrestling for over 30 years in addition to many years as football coach. His education includes Florida College, Tampa U., Northern Illinois University, and Murray State University. He likes to coach wrestling because "the sport is one of the greatest in preparing yourself to deal with life and to develop self confidence. I enjoy watching and being part of it." Coach Kirk has been with us since 1976 and is a teacher for environmental safety at USM.

Often young men that so happen to try wrestling find themselves in a bind of some type. It is well known that Coach Kirk has worked with these young adults and provide the parential mentoring that often keep that kid on the straight and narrow, and often its a pivital point for that person.

Many alumni have stated that it was Coach Kirk that got them focused and straightened out. And if you review the statistics and if you visit the wrestling room, you will see that indeed a strong tradition is in place. Its the alumni that are gone from the program that know the benefits of haveing endured Coach Kirk's sessions. They are the testimonial to what Coach Kirk has done for Deering High School, the community and the lives of so many people.
