Learn more about the MAWA and its role in Maine Wreslting.

Who is the MAWA?

Our Membership is made up of fans, officials, coaches, and of course wrestlers, both present and former. In short, anyone who enjoys the "Sport of the Gods".

The Maine Amateur Wrestling Alliance (MAWA) is dedicated to the development and advancement of all forms of amateur wrestling. The MAWA is further dedicated to the recognition and preservation of past and present achievements. Finally, the MAWA is dedicated to attain recognition and foster support from all sectors of Maine for the betterment of amateur wrestling in our State.

When was the MAWA Formed?

The MAWA was fomed in Janurary of 1988 by John Caramihalis, "Father of Maine Wrestling".

What does the MAWA do?

Our most fulfilling activity is the awarding of scholarships to wrestlers who are continuing their academic pursuits beyond high school. The Alliance also sponsors clinics, a takedown tournament, and is responsible for forming the "Wrestling Hall of Fame". Each year at our annual banquet we induct wrestlers, officials, and other people who have helped the great sport of wrestling become what it is today in the State of Maine.

Website Configuration

The MAWA website is best viewed by ensuring you have certain items addressed:

  • Use Microsoft Internet Explored 5.x or higher
  • Set your Desktop Display Area to 1024 by 768 pixels
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader is used to browse documents
  • Javascript add-on has been implemented

Why encourage these configuration settings? Since the web has become popular over the years, there has been a struggle to standardize the browsers and languages used to see web pages and how they behave. Microsoft and Netscape have been two leaders in this arena. Over the past few years, Microsoft has proven to be a little more stable in terms of its browser and implementation of add-ons and enhancements. Netscape is a great browser and is used often to debug but it has many limitations in terms of stability since it implementation is based on open source and has not yet kept up with new features of the web tools often used today. That said, the next release of Netscape is suppose to address many limitations and provide for new features not now available.

The MAWA website is hosted by the folks out of California.

All of our processing done behind the screens is written using Microsoft VBScript and uses an MS Access database. NextMil does offer MS SQL7 and we may migrate to that database in the future. But given the licence is expensive, Access is currently used.

All documents are presented for browsing by using a tool known as Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Look for the to get the software loaded onto your PC.

And as you may expect, the content on this site is rated [G] and will remain as such. All materials are first reviewed for proper content to ensure no one is offended or hurt in any fashion before it appears on our site.

If you have any needs, questions, or good ideas, by all means, contact the MAWA WebMaster and we will respond to your request.

    Regards,

    MAWA Board of Directors
